MBA Program at Lancaster University Management School

Disclaimer: In July 2008, Lancaster Executive LLC was spun-out from Lancaster University Management School and now operates independently.

The Lancaster full-time MBA combines academics with consultancy interventions. Building upon the University’s organizational and managerial learning developments, we have built our MBA program so that our students experience academic pursuits through real world action.

Our goals are to enable you to gain the most in a single year at Lancaster. You will gain knowledge that is not purely functional knowledge but also a self-awareness, too, a more reflective, perspective on management and leadership which you take with you to any company or business field.

At its core, the Lancaster MBA will help its students:

  • gain a knowledge and understanding of business functions and their inter-relationships
  • learn how to understand complex business situations so that their functional knowledge can be applied effectively
  • gain experience and confidence in using theoretical knowledge in real world practice
  • read and critically appraise management theory and, in doing so, develop your desire for life-long learning.

The important elements of the Lancaster MBA program are:

Developing real world skills

Team and project-based activities will improve your managerial skills – such as leading, managing and consulting, critical thinking, quantitative skills and business planning. You will be developing your communication skills, your capacity to scope and manage projects effectively, and your skills in negotiation and facilitation.

Learning to think critically

What critical thinking means for our MBA students is the ability to understand the increasingly complex world of management and business, and learning to make responsible changes for the better. It also means being able to see through rhetoric and shallow argument and to pose questions, which cut directly into complex issues.

A range of conceptual thinking skills will be introduced to teach you deconstruct organizational problems. Their usefulness will be both of immediate use and for the future, as these skills are vital and timeless for any manager or leader.

Experiencing collaborative team-building

Management and consulting increasingly require people who are effective team players. The best are those who can be equally effective in situations where they have no hierarchical authority, as in with joint ventures or with supply partners, or more traditional business structures.

While we set high standards for individual performance, the Lancaster MBA cultivates a culture of team co-operation, in contrast to the more individually competitive class cultures found on so many MBA programs.
